Police Investigation of Lawyer Claiming Chairman Choi Tae-won as the Real Owner of Hwacheon Daeyu
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Lawyer Jeon Seok-jin, who claimed that SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is the actual owner of Hwacheon Daeyu Asset Management, appeared at the police station after being reported.
According to the police on the 11th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul summoned Lawyer Jeon this morning to investigate him on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation).
In a statement, Lawyer Jeon asserted, "The Hwacheon Daeyu gate is accurately described as a compensation account for people who owed debts in the process of covering up Chairman Chey's special pardon and bribery allegations." He also said, "In principle, when the stated facts are related to the public interest, the purpose of defamation is denied. No one will dispute that the Daejang-dong issue concerns the public interest."

Earlier, SK Group filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in September last year, accusing Lawyer Jeon of spreading false information amid the Daejang-dong allegations. In response, Lawyer Jeon filed a damages lawsuit in October last year, claiming that Chairman Chey's side infringed on freedom of expression.
