View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 11th, from 8:50 AM to 9:40 AM, the government held an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) Standing Committee to discuss the suspected ballistic missile launch by North Korea.
The Standing Committee was attended by Seo Hoon, Director of the National Security Office; Yoo Young-min, Chief of the Presidential Office; Chung Eui-yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Lee In-young, Minister of Unification; Seo Wook, Minister of National Defense; Park Ji-won, Director of the National Intelligence Service; Koo Yun-cheol, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination; Won In-chul, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Seo Joo-seok and Kim Hyung-jin, 1st and 2nd Deputy Directors of the National Security Office; and Noh Kyu-duk, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Korean Peninsula Peace Negotiation Division.
The NSC Standing Committee members received a briefing on the situation and the military’s readiness from Chairman Won In-chul regarding the launch vehicle, then reviewed the security situation and discussed response measures.
The members first analyzed North Korea’s intent behind the consecutive missile tests since the beginning of the year and expressed strong regret over this launch, which took place at a time when stability in the situation is critically important.
They also agreed to conduct a detailed analysis of the launch vehicle’s specifications through close cooperation between South Korea and the United States, while closely monitoring North Korea’s subsequent related activities and preparing necessary response measures.

Furthermore, the NSC Standing Committee urged North Korea to promptly respond to the international community’s expectations for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula by resuming dialogue and cooperation.
