Jeonbuk Province Expands Greenhouse Gas Reduction in the Public Sector
Increase of 14.8 Billion KRW in Project Budget... Strengthening the Leading Role of the Public Sector in Carbon Neutrality
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 10th that it will expand public sector greenhouse gas reduction projects to achieve greenhouse gas reduction targets and realize carbon neutrality by 2050.
The plan involves investing approximately 19.6 billion KRW to establish solar power generation facilities and greenhouse gas reduction equipment.
First, the province plans to expand the carbon neutrality program for environmental infrastructure facilities, which has been promoted since 2014, and the support project for greenhouse gas reduction equipment such as high-efficiency devices for local governments initiated last year.
Compared to last year, the carbon neutrality program for environmental infrastructure facilities will increase by two locations to a total of 14, and the support project for greenhouse gas reduction equipment for local governments will be expanded to two additional cities and counties.
Additionally, starting this year, new projects such as the "Public Sector Target Management Carbon Neutrality Support Project" and the "Public Sector Carbon Neutrality Model Discovery" project will be launched.
The Public Sector Target Management Carbon Neutrality Support Project is a system that improves energy efficiency by installing high-efficiency devices, improving insulation, and installing renewable energy in buildings subject to the public sector greenhouse gas and energy target management system, excluding environmental infrastructure facilities.
The Public Sector Carbon Neutrality Model Discovery Project is a policy expected to be utilized as a core hub for spreading carbon neutrality in both public and private sectors by discovering leading carbon neutrality models, such as obtaining zero-energy building certification by increasing energy self-sufficiency, considering building usage, aging, and greenhouse gas emission characteristics.
These new projects were selected through the Ministry of Environment's local government demand survey and public contest in the second half of last year, with four and two locations respectively, and are scheduled to be implemented this year.
