'Squid Game' Oh Young-soo, First Korean to Win Best Supporting Actor at the US Golden Globe Awards (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Actor Oh Young-soo, who appeared in the Netflix drama 'Ojingeo Game' (Squid Game), won the Best Supporting Actor award in the TV Drama category at the 79th Golden Globe Awards. This is the first time a Korean actor has won at the Golden Globes. Lee Jung-jae, who was nominated for Best Actor, did not win.
Oh Young-soo competed against Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass from 'The Morning Show,' Kieran Culkin from 'Succession,' and Brett Goldstein from 'Ted Lasso.'
The Golden Globes, which award both film and TV categories, have been regarded as conservative due to high language barriers. Previously, films like 'Parasite' and 'Minari' were only able to receive the Best Foreign Language Film award because they did not qualify for Best Picture or acting categories, as their English dialogue was less than half.
