New Chairman of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency Appointed: Former Journalist An Jong-ju

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency announced on the 7th that An Jongju, head of the Social Safety Communication Center at the Korea Institute for Social Policy, has been appointed as the new chairman.
Chairman An is recognized as an expert in industrial safety and health, holding a master's degree in Environmental Health and a doctorate in Industrial Health from Seoul National University. He has served as a standing director of the National Health Insurance Service, chairman of the Sustainability Subcommittee of the Presidential Policy Planning Committee, professor at Dankook University Graduate School of Public Health and Welfare, honorary safety mayor of Seoul, and member of the Special Investigation Commission on Social Disasters.
Notably, while working at Hankyoreh Newspaper in 1988, Chairman An was the first to report on the Wonjin Rayon disaster, a symbol of occupational diseases in Korea, and the reality of asbestos-related occupational cancers.

Chairman An's term is three years. He stated, "The safety of workers is the safety of the people," and added, "I will implement new strategies to reduce fatal accidents in industrial sites."
