Daejang-dong Suspicion Jeong Jin-sang...Prosecutors Scheduled to Summon on the 8th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] The prosecution is reportedly set to summon Jeong Jinsang, deputy chief of the election campaign office and a close aide to Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, on the 8th for investigation related to the Daejang-dong development lobbying and preferential treatment allegations.
According to legal and political circles on the 6th, the dedicated investigation team of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kim Tae-hoon) plans to summon Deputy Chief Jeong as a suspect on the 8th for questioning. However, if Deputy Chief Jeong requests a change of the attendance date due to campaign schedules, there is a possibility that the investigation could be delayed.
Deputy Chief Jeong has been suspected of pressuring Hwang Mu-seong, former president of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, who still had a remaining term when the Daejang-dong project was underway, to step down from his position. Documents related to the Daejang-dong development project were also signed and approved by him in his capacity as Seongnam City Policy Director.
After the Daejang-dong allegations investigation intensified, former president Hwang released a February 6, 2015, recording of a conversation with former Development Project Director Yuhan Gi. The recording contains multiple references by former Director Yu to "the Mayor" and "Director Jeong," urging former President Hwang to resign. "The Mayor" is presumed to refer to Lee Jae-myung, then Mayor of Seongnam, and "Director Jeong" is presumed to refer to Deputy Chief Jeong, who was then serving as Seongnam City Policy Director. Based on these facts, opposition parties and civic groups filed complaints with the prosecution accusing candidate Lee and Deputy Chief Jeong of abuse of authority and coercion.
