Hongseong Prison Returns to Normal 25 Days After COVID-19 Outbreak
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Chungnam Hongseong Correctional Institution, where a COVID-19 cluster infection occurred, has returned to normal after 25 days.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 6th, among the 197 inmates who were transferred from Hongseong Correctional Institution to the newly built Daegu Correctional Institution following the cluster infection, 188 non-infected inmates, excluding confirmed cases, those released after serving their sentences, and those granted parole, returned on this day. Since two inmates tested positive on the 27th of last month, no new confirmed cases have been reported at Hongseong Correctional Institution up to this day. Since the cluster infection emerged on the 12th of last month, 3 staff members and 62 inmates have tested positive. Most of the inmates who were confirmed positive and are currently undergoing treatment have recovered to the extent that their daily lives are not affected or are asymptomatic and stable.
