All Three Fallen Firefighters Belonged to the Same Team...One Was a Breadwinner with Two Children, Another a 9-Month Rookie
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Ji-hwan] It has been confirmed that the three firefighters who died in the line of duty while extinguishing a fire at a frozen warehouse construction site in Cheongbuk-eup, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 6th all belonged to the Songtan Fire Station 119 Rescue Team. Among them, one member was the head of a family with two children, and another was a rookie who had been appointed less than a year ago.
Team leader Fire Lieutenant Lee Hyung-seok (50) is a veteran appointed in July 1994, responsible for overseeing rescue operations in the team. He is known to be the head of a family with a wife and two children. Fire Sergeant Park Soo-dong (31) was appointed in February 2016. The youngest member by age in the team, Firefighter Jo Woo-chan (25), is a newcomer who was appointed last May.
According to Gyeonggi Province and others, at around 12:22 PM that day, the Gyeonggi Fire Disaster Headquarters’ search team found two rescue workers collapsed on the second floor of the seven-story frozen warehouse building under construction. They were already deceased when found. The remaining member was also found dead at around 12:41 PM not far from the previously discovered members.

The funeral hall for the three deceased firefighters has been set up at Pyeongtaek City Jeil Funeral Hall. The memorial service will be held on the morning of the 8th at the Pyeongtaek Ichung Culture and Sports Center as a Gyeonggi Provincial Government Chief (葬) funeral.
