The Korea National University of Arts and KAIST will sign a mutual cooperation agreement on the 6th to expand the convergence of culture, arts, and cutting-edge technology. They will discover and promote cooperative projects in various fields. These include ▲mutual exchange of faculty and staff ▲mutual exchange of students and cooperation in educational programs ▲joint operation of research centers and co-hosting academic conferences ▲collaborative creation of convergent arts and advanced content.
At the KAIST auditorium where the agreement signing ceremony will take place, a performance showcasing the potential of cultural technology expansion will be held. Sumi Jo, a distinguished visiting professor at the KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology and a world-renowned vocalist, will perform in collaboration with VirtuosoNet, an AI piano performer developed by KAIST. Hwang Hee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "This agreement is an important turning point to promote the convergence between culture, arts, and cutting-edge technology," and promised, "We will strengthen digital capabilities to innovate the content industry and spare no effort to support the spread of Hallyu content worldwide."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will invest 132.3 billion won in research and development (R&D) in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism this year, which is 16.1% more than last year. Twenty-four projects to be promoted this year have already been confirmed. The ministry plans to expand support for research on new growth engines based on non-face-to-face platforms, strengthen digital capabilities, and foster small and medium-sized content companies with strong potential. An official stated, "As interest in extended virtual worlds (metaverse) has increased, we will intensify related technology R&D and expand support for advanced immersive technologies such as virtual reality (VR)."
