Flurona, a Combination of COVID-19 and Flu, Detected in Croatia
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A case of 'Flurona,' a simultaneous infection of the COVID-19 virus and influenza, has been confirmed in Croatia.
Flurona is a portmanteau of Flu and Corona.
On the 4th (local time), according to Sputnik News, Dijana Maier, spokesperson for the Croatian National Institute of Public Health, stated, "The first case of Flurona has been confirmed in Croatia," adding, "The overlap of the two diseases makes it difficult to distinguish between them, complicating the situation."
She added, "Flu symptoms are more severe, with a fever around 39 degrees Celsius accompanied by muscle pain," and "COVID-19 symptoms are milder and progress gradually."
Previously, cases of Flurona were reported in Israel, Brazil, and Hungary.
Meanwhile, the news agency reported that new COVID-19 cases are rising again in Croatia, where the first patient infected with the Omicron variant was reported last month.
As of the 3rd, the number of new confirmed cases in Croatia, with a population of about 4.08 million, was 1,103, approximately double compared to a week earlier.
