View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 5th that it has partnered with rental service startup Aroundable to launch the 'Pick & Pick Rental Service.'
The Pick & Pick Rental Service allows customers to rent over 300 of the latest products across 11 categories, including gaming consoles, beauty devices, camping equipment, and sports goods. The minimum rental period is three days. Unlike traditional rentals that require long-term contracts, this service offers the advantage of using a variety of products.
The service can be used through immediate rental, where customers pick up products directly at the store, or reservation rental, where products are received on a specified date via an application (app). For immediate rental, customers scan the QR code of the product available in the store with their camera, select the rental period, make the payment, and then receive the desired item from the store staff. About 50 products are available for immediate rental, including the Galaxy Watch4, AirPods Pro, iPad Pro 5th generation, CineBeam, Dyson hairdryer, and laser putter. For reservation rental, customers specify the pick-up and return dates on the Pick & Pick webpage and then receive the rental product either at the store or via delivery, depending on their preference.
According to a pilot operation conducted by CU in December last year, the 20s and 30s age group accounted for 80% of total usage. The most rented products were smart devices, making up 34.1% of the total. This was followed by beauty devices at 20.6%, sports goods at 17.7%, massage devices at 8.2%, and pet supplies at 7.9%. CU currently operates the rental service at five stores: BGF Office Building Branch, Yeoksam Center Branch, Wirye 35 Complex Branch, Macheon Park Branch, and Seocho Green Branch. The company plans to continuously expand the number of service stores and rental products based on customer feedback.
