[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] More than 30 cats trapped and abandoned in a small officetel without an owner were rescued.
Recently, the cat protection group 'Nabiya Saranghae' posted on their official Instagram, stating, "A few days ago, we received a report that there were over 30 cats in an officetel and urgently went to the scene."
The photos released along with the post showed dozens of cats filling every corner of the house, including the entrance, rooms, inside wardrobes and drawers, and near the windows. The fact that dozens of cats were abandoned came to light after the tenant stopped paying rent.
The group reported the current situation, saying, "The animal hoarder who neglected and failed to properly care for the 30 or so cats wrote a letter of abandonment and disappeared, and the officetel owner, unable to leave the remaining cats alone, was providing food and water." An animal hoarder refers to a person who adopts animals like collecting items and neglects them.
The group added, "Unable to ignore so many cats, we decided to rescue them and are visiting the site regularly for special care," and explained, "We will do our best to assess the cats' health and temperament and find good families to protect them."
