[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Donations for vulnerable groups in the Gwangju area, struggling due to COVID-19, continue into the new year.
Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 4th that it held consecutive donation ceremonies with the KIA Tigers team and Smart21 LLC.
The KIA Tigers team designated and donated 25,000 Hope Masks (worth 10 million KRW) to 29 vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled in Gwangju to support vulnerable groups overcoming COVID-19.
Smart21 LLC delivered 100 bags of 20kg white rice (worth 70 million KRW) to the Gwangju Volunteer Center to support vulnerable groups facing difficulties due to COVID-19.
The delivered rice will be distributed to vulnerable groups through the ‘Haetteuneun Restaurant’ in Dong-gu Daein Market, which plays a role as a guardian of marginalized neighbors with its ‘Thousand Won Meal’ despite the difficult business conditions caused by COVID-19, and through volunteer centers in five districts.
Lim Ki-young, a player representing the KIA Tigers team, who attended the event, said, “The team gathered sincerity to give back to the local community for the love received from fans. I am glad it can be delivered to those in need.”
Kim Yong-seon, CEO of Smart21, and Go Ju-hee, CEO, stated, “We hope this will be a small help to neighbors going through difficult times due to COVID-19.”
Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, “Thank you for contributing to the realization of a hopeful Gwangju community through positive influence at the start of 2022,” and added, “Donations filled with sincerity will be a hope to the citizens.”
