Establishment of a Pyrolysis Facility for 'Waste Vinyl and Agricultural Waste' in Hoengseong-gun
Investment of 12 Billion KRW by 2023... Daily Capacity of 20 Tons
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province announced on the 2nd that it has been selected for the government's "Public Waste Pyrolysis Facility Project," establishing a fundamental basis for reducing carbon emissions in the waste sector and solving the problem of agricultural waste in the province.
The waste pyrolysis facility recycles waste vinyl and plastic residues, which were difficult to recycle and previously incinerated or landfilled, by pyrolyzing them into heating oil or petroleum and chemical raw materials.
The Hoengseong-gun public waste vinyl pyrolysis facility will be built within the Hoengseong-gun landfill site with a daily capacity of 20 tons, with an investment of 12 billion KRW (6 billion KRW in national funds) over three years.
Once the pyrolysis facility is completed in 2024, it will be able to recycle 5,760 tons of waste vinyl annually into 3,456 tons of pyrolysis oil.
The province expects to sell the produced pyrolysis oil as heating oil or petroleum and chemical raw materials, generating approximately 1.7 billion KRW in annual revenue.
Additionally, compared to incinerating waste vinyl, there will be a carbon emission reduction effect of 7,403 tCO2, and future carbon emission trading revenue of 230 billion KRW is also expected to be secured.
