White House Declares Colorado Wildfire Disaster Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] U.S. President Joe Biden has declared a disaster area in Colorado, where hundreds of homes were destroyed by wildfires.
The White House issued a press release on the 1st (local time), stating, "President Biden declared Colorado a disaster area the previous day" and "ordered federal support for disaster recovery."
In Colorado, a wildfire rapidly spread on December 30th last year, driven by strong winds, and it is estimated that at least 500 homes were destroyed.
Wildfires usually occur in remote mountainous areas, but this time the fire started near a town and spread rapidly due to strong winds, causing extensive damage.
Large-scale wildfires in December are unusual in Colorado. The fire is reported to have spread easily due to dry trees caused by months of drought combined with strong winds.
