Samsung Electronics Signs $100 Million Digital Device Supply Contract with Indian State Government
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Electronics has signed a large-scale digital device supply contract worth 100 million USD (approximately 119 billion KRW) with the government of Uttar Pradesh, a state in northern India.
According to Samsung Electronics India on the 31st, both parties recently signed a contract to supply 940,000 educational information technology (IT) devices, including 700,000 Galaxy A03 and A03s smartphones and 240,000 Galaxy Tab A7 Lite tablets.
The contract is valued at about 100 million USD and also includes a two-year license guarantee for Samsung Knox, a security platform, for each device. This is the largest contract in terms of both quantity and amount among Samsung Electronics India's business-to-business (B2B) transactions.
The Galaxy A03s, released last August, features a large 6.5-inch display and a high-capacity 5000mAh battery. Although it is a mid-to-low priced model at around 200,000 KRW, it is evaluated to have excellent camera performance.
The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite was introduced to the Indian market starting in June and is equipped with an 8.7-inch screen and a 1.8 GHz octa-core processor. It has a thickness of 8mm and weighs 300g.
