Gwangju Police Conduct Year-End and New Year Drunk Driving Crackdown
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Police will significantly strengthen drunk driving crackdowns in response to the increase in drinking gatherings such as year-end parties during the year-end and New Year period.
The Gwangju Police Agency and the Autonomous Police Committee announced on the 31st that they plan to conduct related crackdowns to prevent traffic accidents caused by drinking.
To this end, all available personnel including traffic police, undercover patrol teams, motorcycle units, and riot police will be mobilized for drunk driving enforcement. They will conduct continuous drunk driving checks while moving around, without distinction between main roads and side streets, focusing on areas with frequent drunk driving such as entertainment districts and restaurant areas, during daytime as well as nighttime (early and late shifts) and late-night hours.
Not only passenger cars but also commercial vehicles such as taxis, buses, freight trucks, and motorcycles suspected of drunk driving will be thoroughly checked without exception to ensure no gaps in enforcement.
Additionally, passengers accompanying drunk drivers will be punished as accomplices, and for habitual drunk drivers, vehicle seizure will be actively pursued according to seizure criteria to prevent repeat offenses.
