Cheon Jeong-bae and Other Non-Mainstream Honam Faction Rejoin the Democratic Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The 'Honam non-Moon faction' figures who left the Democratic Party during the 2016 'Bundang incident' are rejoining the Democratic Party.
On the afternoon of the 30th, the Democratic Party will hold an admission ceremony for about 10 people, including former lawmakers Cheon Jeong-bae, Yoo Seong-yeop, Choi Kyung-hwan, Lee Yong-ju, Kim Yoo-jung, Jeong Ho-jun, Kim Kwang-soo, and Kim Jong-hoe. These individuals had previously left the Democratic Party to establish the People's Party with leader Ahn Cheol-soo, and later were active in the Party for Democracy and Peace and the Minsaeng Party, often opposing the Democratic Party.
The returning members are expected to join the campaign committee and work in the National Integration Committee. Their admission is known to have been actively promoted by former lawmaker Kim Kwan-young, who rejoined earlier and currently serves as co-chairman of the National Integration Committee of the campaign committee. The Democratic Party has officially decided to accept re-admission applications from those who left during the split for fifteen days from the 3rd to the 17th of next month. Former lawmaker Jeong Dong-young, who is not included in this re-admission, is expected to undergo the re-admission process next year.
