How Much Is the Speaker Featured on 'Nol Myo What?'... People Power Party Says "We Will File a Complaint"
MBC States "Pure Donation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] The People Power Party has announced its intention to file charges against Park Sung-je, MBC president, for exposing expensive speakers from a specific company for free on broadcasts.
On the 29th, Yoon Young-seok, head of the Media Headquarters of the People Power Party's Central Election Countermeasures Committee, stated in a press release, "We plan to file charges against President Park Sung-je for breach of trust in office by lining up expensive items from a specific company as business assets and continuously exposing them on broadcasts, thereby privatizing the broadcast."
He added, "The MBC building where popular programs are filmed is MBC's business property intended to generate financial benefits through paid advertisements such as PPL. If products from a specific person are displayed there without compensation, there is a high possibility that breach of trust in office charges will be established."
He also mentioned, "According to the MBC labor union's statement, on December 18th, the MBC entertainment program 'How Do You Play?' featured speakers known in the speaker industry for being expensive, exposed for as long as about 10 minutes."
Furthermore, "After being dismissed and disciplined, President Park Sung-je established a personal business and has been operating a handmade speaker company. Among these speakers, the most expensive one was recently placed behind the sofa in the hall of the newly opened MBC Gangnam building, continuously exposing it on broadcasts," he added.
Head Yoon said, "Although President Park Sung-je has stepped down from the position of company representative, given the shareholding relationship and the uncertainty of his actions after resigning as president, continuously exposing Park Sung-je's speakers on broadcasts amounts to privatization of the broadcast for personal gain. It is desirable for President Park to reflect now, restore everything to its original place, and resign."
The problematic expensive speakers were exposed for about 10 minutes on the MBC entertainment program 'How Do You Play?' aired on the 18th. At that time, the speakers were positioned on both sides behind the cast at the MBC Gangnam building, naturally appearing on the broadcast. Each speaker costs about 12 million KRW.

Meanwhile, MBC responded, "President Park Sung-je severed ties with the business immediately upon reinstatement in 2017 and has donated speakers to various places even during his dismissal period. Claiming pure donations as PPL favoritism or broadcast privatization is an excessive criticism."
