US Reports 440,000 New COVID-19 Cases, Setting Global Record
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Reports have emerged that the daily new COVID-19 cases in the United States have exceeded 440,000, marking the highest number in the world.
According to local U.S. media on the 28th (local time), based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, the number of new cases on the 27th in the U.S. was 441,278, breaking the daily record since the pandemic outbreak.
This figure far surpasses the approximately 294,000 cases in January before large-scale vaccine distribution in the U.S. and the roughly 290,000 cases on the 20th of this month following the spread of the Omicron variant.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the number of new cases on the 27th was 512,553, setting a new world record.
However, the CDC pointed out that the 27th's figures might be overestimated due to delays in testing and testing site closures during the Christmas holiday period.
