The Democratic Party to File Complaints Against 66 Opposition Lawmakers for Spreading False Admission Information About Lee Jae-myung's Son
""Candidate Lee's eldest son retaking the exam three times and entering Korea University through a special admission is clearly a false claim by the opposition""
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to file a complaint with the prosecution against 66 members of the People Power Party for spreading false information related to candidate Lee Jae-myung's son's university admission.
On the 29th, Kwon Hyuk-ki, Deputy Director of Public Relations for the Democratic Party's election committee, stated at a briefing in the afternoon that the People Power Party and Yoon Seok-youl candidate's election committee, which raised suspicions about candidate Lee's son's university admission corruption, "spread false information without verifying basic facts," and added, "We will file complaints against all those involved in spreading the false information tomorrow (the 30th)."
On the same day, the Democratic Party's election committee counterattacked by disclosing the admission process of candidate Lee's eldest and second sons to Korea University.
According to the disclosed materials, candidate Lee's eldest son graduated from high school in February 2011 and was admitted to Korea University in 2012 through the regular early admission process after retaking the college entrance exam.
Deputy Director Kwon pointed out, "The claim by 66 People Power Party members that he entered through a special admission after taking the exam three times is clearly false." He explained, "The eldest son applied through the 'regular early admission' which selects students based on essay and school records, took the essay exam, and was admitted. In this admission process, the eldest son not only excelled in the essay but also achieved top grades (1st grade) in subjects such as Korean language, Mathematics (Type B), foreign language, and social studies in the CSAT, meeting all minimum academic requirements for final acceptance."
Regarding the second son's admission to the Department of Public Administration at Korea University, it was revealed that he applied and was admitted to the College of Political Science and Economics through the 2013 'early international admission' process. Deputy Director Kwon stated, "It was not a matter of choosing a department at the time of application; the Department of Public Administration in the College of Political Science and Economics was decided in the second year," and refuted, "Chairman Kim Jin-tae's claim that he entered the Department of Economics at Korea University is fake news." He added, "Although it was not included in the special admission category at Korea University, the second son achieved top grades (1st grade) in Korean language, foreign language, and social studies areas in the CSAT at that time."

Earlier, 66 members of the People Power Party issued a statement at the National Assembly Communication Hall on the 27th, announcing the need for a fair investigation into the university admission suspicions involving candidate Lee's son. They argued that it is hard to accept that candidate Lee's eldest son entered Korea University through a special early admission after taking the exam three times, especially since he had no overseas experience but was admitted to the Department of Business Administration through a special admission process selecting for foreign language ability. They also pointed out that this coincides with candidate Lee's tenure as mayor of Seongnam, demanding a thorough investigation.
