Haenam-gun Accelerates Water Supply Project for 'Clean Water' Provision

Achieving 85% Water Flow Rate and 96% Water Supply Coverage to Alleviate Resident Inconvenience

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam County (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) has secured a project budget of 30.4 billion KRW, including 17.2 billion KRW in national funds, for the expansion and maintenance of water supply facilities in 2022, and is accelerating the project implementation.

According to the county on the 29th, the local water supply modernization project, which replaces aging water pipes within the jurisdiction, will be actively promoted.

The Haenam County local water supply modernization project will invest a total of 33.1 billion KRW, including 16.5 billion KRW in national funds, to replace 105 km of aging water pipelines in Haenam-eup, Songji-myeon, Hwangsan-myeon, and Munnae-myeon areas by 2024, and establish a block system.

Additionally, a local water supply modernization project is underway to fully renovate the Haenam Water Purification Plant located in Songjeong-ri, Samsan-myeon, with a total project cost of 20 billion KRW, including national funds.

The newly constructed purification plant, scheduled for completion in 2023, will be equipped with the latest technology to monitor the entire water supply process and water quality in real time, prevent water quality accidents in advance, and enable proactive water quality management.

Through the local water supply modernization project, the county plans to raise the current water service rate from 77% to 85%, establishing a virtuous cycle structure for water supply business by systematic facility operation and reducing water costs.

Along with this, through rural living water development projects and installation of drainage pipelines, the county plans to supply water to Hwasan, Hyunsan, Okcheon, and Gyegok-myeon by 2028, raising the local water supply rate to 96%.

A water management system incorporating ICT throughout the entire water supply process will be established to prevent accidents in advance and enable rapid response, with the smart water network management infrastructure project scheduled for completion this year.

Next year, the county plans to actively secure national funds to promptly complete ongoing projects and actively pursue new projects such as the island area (Sammado) drinking water source maintenance project, Okcheon and Gyegok district rural living water development projects, and Songji water purification plant maintenance project.

Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “As a result of actively improving living environments through facility expansion for the stable supply of clear and clean tap water, large-scale projects in the water supply sector have been continuously promoted since the 7th local government administration,” adding, “We will do our best to carry out construction without delay so that residents can use the water supply without inconvenience and receive clean water.”
