Jeongseok Aviation Science High School was designated as a competency-based qualification education and training course in 2019 to cultivate customized talents according to changing industrial demands. Starting from the second semester of the first year to the second semester of the second year (a total of 3 semesters, completed in December 2021) for the 2020 freshmen, the school has been organizing and operating a competency-based industrial engineer training course. Recently, 48 students obtained the national qualification industrial engineer certificate despite being in the regular curriculum. The competency-based industrial engineer system is a program based on the National Competency Standards (NCS) that grants students industrial engineer qualifications by completing basic vocational skills, essential competency units, and elective competency units according to the subject-specific curriculum standards, followed by internal and external evaluations.
The reason Jeongseok Aviation Science High School students showed excellent results in the national qualification exam is interpreted as the driving force being the operation of the required qualification skills for each category?aviation industrial engineer, electronic industrial engineer, and production automation industrial engineer?linked with the vocational high school credit system.
The school explained that this achievement is the result of growth through the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education’s initiatives for vocational education innovation, including NCS-based curriculum operation, specialized high school innovation support projects, and leading schools for the vocational high school credit system, which developed and operated customized curricula for Incheon’s strategic industries and formed voluntary student curricula.
