Gochang-gun Secures Additional 350 Million KRW in Special Grants... Momentum for Current Projects

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) announced on the 28th that it has additionally secured 350 million won in special grants from central government ministries (national funds).

With this, the county has secured a total of 5 billion won in special grants across 18 cases this year, which is an increase of about 750 million won compared to last year.

Special grants are funds provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to compensate for special financial demands considering changes in local financial conditions, disasters, and other unexpected financial needs.

The ‘Disaster Risk Facility Modernization Project’ involves reconstructing the bridge near Seondong-ri, Gong-eum-myeon.

This is a habitual sediment accumulation area where soil is intensively pushed downstream during heavy rains.

Although the drainage channels are blocked by sediment inflow and flooding damage frequently occurs, budget constraints have made it difficult to address the issue, so only temporary dredging work has been carried out so far.

With the secured special grants, widening the river width and reconstructing the bridge according to the basic small stream plan will facilitate drainage flow and is expected to fundamentally solve the problem.

Governor Yu Gisang said, “Securing 5 billion won in special grants this year is an achievement obtained through close cooperation with the political circles amid the increasingly difficult economic situation due to the impact of COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to cooperate with central government ministries and political circles to secure national funds focusing on urgent projects that prioritize the interests of the residents.”
