[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] SK Telecom announced on the 28th that Yoo Young-sang, CEO (photo), received the ‘Order of Science and Technology Merit (Woongbi Medal)’ at the first-ever Korea Communications Commission’s ‘Internet and Telecommunications User Protection Merit’ awards ceremony held this year.
The KCC’s Internet and Telecommunications User Protection Merit awards were given to a total of nine recipients, including one Order of Merit, one Presidential Citation, three Presidential Commendations, and four Prime Minister Commendations.
CEO Yoo Young-sang was honored for his contributions to enhancing user satisfaction in the wired and wireless telecommunications sectors and for supporting socially vulnerable groups’ non-face-to-face activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among wired and wireless telecommunications companies, SK Telecom currently records the lowest number of complaints per 100,000 subscribers. In fact, the average monthly number of complaints this year was 283, a 29% decrease from 396 last year, making it the best among the three major telecom companies. To improve service quality, SK Telecom operates internal service verification processes such as member experience groups and user feedback channels, and also employs voice artificial intelligence (AI) counseling.
Regarding support for vulnerable groups, SK Telecom was highly evaluated for contributing to solving social challenges through ICT-based education and care programs during the COVID-19 situation. The company provides on-site telecommunications complaint services targeting socially vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and the elderly. It also collaborates with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to operate a voice phishing number blocking service and has established crime prevention systems including text and voice spam blocking.
