[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] The People Power Party continues its 'family risk' offensive, demanding that Dongho, the eldest son of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, clarify the circumstances of his admission to Korea University. This appears to be an attempt to shift the narrative in response to the intensified public criticism following the national apology by Kim Gun-hee, wife of Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, the day before.
On the 27th, the People Power Party issued a statement at the National Assembly Communication Office, asserting that "a fair verification of the university admission suspicions concerning Candidate Lee's son is necessary." They raised allegations of illegal gambling and prostitution involving Dongho, followed by suspicions of irregularities in his university admission.
Assemblywoman Jeong Gyeong-hee, who announced the statement, emphasized, "Verification of the families of presidential candidates is part of the process of verifying the qualifications of the presidential candidates themselves. The scrutiny of Yoon Seok-yeol's wife, Kim Gun-hee, is conducted in this context, and the same applies to the sons of Candidate Lee."
Jeong pointed out, "When habitual gambling allegations against Lee's eldest son Dongho surfaced, additional suspicions of prostitution and irregular admission to Korea University were raised. While Candidate Lee admitted to and apologized for the gambling, he denied the prostitution allegations and has provided no explanation regarding the numerous suspicions surrounding the Korea University admission process."
She continued, "Dongho is known to have graduated from a high school in Seongnam City and, after three attempts, was admitted to Korea University through a special early admission process. It is difficult to accept as common sense that Dongho, who is a third-time applicant with no known overseas experience, was admitted to the Department of Business Administration through a highly competitive early admission special screening, which selects candidates based on outstanding foreign language skills, with a competition rate close to 50 to 1 at the time."
Furthermore, she added, "Just as Cho Kuk's daughter was admitted irregularly to the Department of Environmental Ecology at Korea University in 2010 through the World Leading Talent Admission with fabricated credentials, the 2012 Korea University early special admission process, which Dongho is presumed to have undergone, is a similar type of screening."
Assemblywoman Jeong urged, "Candidate Lee should promptly disclose all admission-related documents, including high school grades, to the public to clarify the suspicions regarding his son's Korea University admission and thoroughly explain all related allegations."

Meanwhile, Candidate Lee has admitted to his son's illegal gambling but denied the prostitution allegations claimed by the opposition party. On the 20th, during an appearance on KBS Radio's 'Joo Jin-woo Live,' he addressed the prostitution allegations raised through internet community posts, stating, "I wondered why the posts remained on the site, and I was told that after withdrawing, they tried to delete them but were unable to. I thought, 'How could they know about something even the person themselves couldn't delete?'"
