“Gather Talents to Shine Pohang” … Pohang Scholarship Foundation Recruiting 2022 Seoul ‘Pohang Haksa’ Residents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Trainee Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Pohang Scholarship Foundation is recruiting residents for the 2022 academic year at the Seoul Pohang Dormitory.
The scholarship foundation operates the Seoul Pohang Dormitory to reduce the educational and financial burdens of students from the Pohang region attending universities in the metropolitan area, allowing them to focus on their studies and nurture talents who will lead Pohang.
The Seoul Pohang Dormitory serves as a central hub where students from Pohang residing in the metropolitan area can maintain bonds as Pohang natives and exchange culture and information.
Located in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, the dormitory is a seven-story building above ground with one basement floor, offering 75 rooms with two students per room, and is conveniently accessible for students with disabilities.
Facilities include a communal dining hall, fitness center, reading room, lounge, mechanical room, laundry room, shared kitchen, and parking lot. Each room is equipped with individual heating and cooling systems, desks, beds, and wardrobes.
The recruitment quota is 73 male students and 78 female students, totaling 151. Current students can apply from the 24th of this month until January 14, 2022, and new students until January 20, via the Pohang Scholarship Foundation website.
Applicants must be freshmen or enrolled students at universities located in Seoul, Gyeonggi, or Incheon metropolitan areas, and either the applicant or their guardian must have resided in Pohang for more than one year as of the announcement date to qualify for residency.
New students may apply even before the university acceptance announcements, but must have an average score of 70 or higher across four subjects taken in the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT): Korean, Mathematics, English, and one top-scoring subject in the inquiry area.
For students majoring in arts and physical education, an average score of 50 or higher is sufficient, or alternatively, if their first semester grades of the third year in high school are within the top 3 grades, they are eligible.
Current students must have a GPA of B or higher in the previous semester.
Selection is based on a scoring system with 30 points for academic performance and 70 points for conduct, with candidates ranked by total score. Additional points are awarded to socially disadvantaged individuals, children of national veterans, children from large families and multicultural families, and households affected by disasters.
