LGD Automotive OLED Panel 'Image Quality' Receives International Certification
Application of New OLED Technology Stacking Multiple Layers of Light-Emitting Elements Improves Screen Brightness and Lifespan
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Display's automotive OLED panels have been recognized for their image quality in the global market.
LG Display announced on the 26th that it has obtained the 'High Visibility Automotive OLED' certification from the global certification body Germany's TUV Rheinland.
LG Display's automotive OLED panels consistently deliver image quality across a wide range of driving environments, including brightness levels encountered by drivers during day and night (10~5000 lux), and maintained the same image quality even in harsh low temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius.
They were also evaluated to accurately display small content, as small as 5% of the entire screen size, without distortion from any viewing angle between the driver's seat and the passenger seat.
According to LG Display, this product applies a new OLED technology (Tandem) that stacks red (R), green (G), and blue (B) light-emitting elements in multiple layers, significantly improving screen brightness and lifespan compared to products with a single layer of light-emitting elements.
Existing automotive LCDs had limitations such as light leakage around small content causing reduced contrast ratio and slow response speed in low-temperature environments resulting in afterimages.
In contrast, LG Display's self-emissive automotive OLED achieves a contrast ratio of about 600,000:1, far exceeding the certification standard (50,000:1), and maintains over 99% of luminance and color even under rapid changes in external automotive environments. The response speed is also faster than the certification standard (3ms) at 0.66ms, eliminating afterimages.
