[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A thrilling incident occurred when a man flying a giant kite on a Sri Lankan beach was swept away by the wind and lifted into the air.
According to NDTV and others on the 23rd (local time), on the 18th at Point Pedro beach in Jaffna, northern Sri Lanka, Nadarasa Manoharan, who was flying a kite, was swept up by a gust of wind and flew about 12 meters above the ground.
At the time, Manoharan was participating in a kite-flying event with five acquaintances, preparing to fly a giant kite while holding onto the kite string.
Then, his acquaintances let go of the string, leaving Manoharan holding it alone.
At that moment, a sudden gust of wind blew, and Manoharan was pulled by the kite, rising 9 to 12 meters above the ground.
Manoharan stated, "I didn’t realize that others had let go of the kite string, so I kept holding on."
When Manoharan was swept away by the wind, the five acquaintances who were holding the string together were at a loss and greatly panicked. They shouted at Manoharan to "let go of the rope before you get pulled up any higher."
Videos released on social media show Manoharan dangling from the kite string connected to the kite, hanging in the air before falling onto the sandy beach.
Immediately after the fall, Manoharan was transported to a nearby hospital and fortunately was not seriously injured.
Manoharan explained the tense situation, saying, "While I was floating in the air, I didn’t look down and kept holding the string. After a long time, my hands hurt, so I had no choice but to let go of the rope."
