[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A woman in her 20s was arrested by the police on suspicion of abandoning a newborn baby in a clothing collection box, resulting in the baby's death.
The Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that they have arrested and are investigating a woman in her 20s, identified as A, on charges of abandoning a corpse.
A is suspected of abandoning the baby she gave birth to in a clothing collection box on the street in Gwoldong, Osan-si, Gyeonggi Province, at around 5:20 p.m. on the 18th, and fleeing the scene.
The police responded to a report from a used clothing collector at around 11:30 p.m. the next day (the 19th) and found the infant wrapped in a towel and deceased. It was reported that the baby was found naked with the umbilical cord still attached.
After searching the area around the scene and analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police identified the suspect as A and arrested her at her home near the medical collection box at around 7:30 p.m. on the 23rd.
During the police investigation, A stated, "My husband did not know about the pregnancy, so I secretly gave birth and abandoned the baby to hide it."
