People Power Party: "Democratic Party Abandoned Kim Dae-jung's Spirit... Look at Your Own Candidate First"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Amid controversy over a People Power Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Party official directing profanity at Mayor Lee Yong-seop of Gwangju, the Democratic Party and the People Power Party are engaged in a heated debate.
The incident began on the morning of the 23rd, before People Power Party presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol's visit to the AI Data Center construction site in Buk-gu, Gwangju.
While waiting for candidate Yoon, Gwangju Deputy Mayor of Economy Jo In-cheol greeted, and a People Power Party official said, “(Mayor Lee Yong-seop) XXXXX, once you’ve said it, that should be enough, why say it again?” while hurling profanities.
Deputy Mayor Jo responded, “What are you doing?” but the surrounding people intervened, and the situation was settled for the time being.
Regarding this, the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party issued a statement saying, “The People Power Party Gwangju City Party Chairman’s profanity directed at the mayor is an insult to the citizens of Gwangju.”
The party stated, “Mayor Lee Yong-seop has publicly criticized candidate Yoon Seok-yeol several times on behalf of the citizens of Gwangju for his praise of Jeon Du-hwan’s politics,” adding, “This is a statement that the mayor, representing the citizens of Gwangju, should and can rightfully make.”
They continued, “However, today when candidate Yoon arrived, the People Power Party City Party Chairman, as if wearing an armband, directed profanity at the mayor, which is truly outrageous,” and criticized, “This is a disgraceful act that directly reflects the current level of the People Power Party.”
Furthermore, they said, “The City Party Chairman must immediately apologize to the citizens of Gwangju and step down, and candidate Yoon Seok-yeol cannot be free from responsibility for appointing such a person as the city party chairman representing Gwangju,” urging, “We demand the immediate dismissal of the city party chairman and a public apology.”
The People Power Party Gwangju City Party also issued a rebuttal statement titled ‘The Democratic Party Gwangju City Party should first look at candidate Lee Jae-myung.’
This was in response to the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party’s statement calling candidate Yoon’s mention of Kim Dae-jung’s spirit “shameless.”
The People Power Party Gwangju City Party emphasized, “The Democratic Party Gwangju City Party is showing an utterly absurd behavior by bringing up internal issues of other parties,” and added, “The arrogant and insolent remarks of the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party likely stem from underestimating the level and awareness of the citizens of Gwangju.”
They continued, “It is the current Democratic Party that has abandoned the spirit of Kim Dae-jung,” and stated, “Before criticizing candidates from other parties, the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party should first look at their own candidate.”

They also added, “One clear thing found from candidate Lee Jae-myung is that his entire life is marked by hypocrisy, perjury, fraud, impersonation, deviation, and lawbreaking,” concluding, “The ‘double standards’ Democratic Party Gwangju City Party has no right to criticize candidates from other parties.”
