Gurye-gun Promotes Diversification of Agricultural Income through Nonkong Cultivation
Promoting Sustainable Agriculture through Contract Farming with iCOOP Consumer Cooperative
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun (Governor Kim Sun-ho) announced on the 21st that the Gurye Jirisan Bean Agricultural Cooperative Corporation sold 42 tons of this year's rice field soybeans, which had been cultivated for agricultural income diversification, to iCOOP Cooperative.
The Gurye Jirisan Bean Agricultural Cooperative Corporation was established in July last year and consists of 138 farming households.
In response to the government's policy encouraging the cultivation of alternative crops due to the oversupply of rice, soybeans were chosen as a new income crop.
The agricultural cooperative corporation earned 250 million KRW in income through contract farming with iCOOP Cooperative.
Gurye-gun is educating farmers on cultivation techniques through soybean sowing and harvesting demonstration events, and plans to actively support farming next year by expanding eco-friendly soybean cultivation, including providing crop growth enhancers (Miracle K) and bird damage prevention nets.
Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Province Eco-friendly Agriculture Division, which visited on the day, stated that soybeans are prioritized in the province's own rice field alternative crop cultivation support project and pledged active cooperation in consulting and machinery equipment support projects such as the Field Management Entity Support Project.
Ko Jung-ju, CEO of Gurye Jirisan Bean Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, said, "With contract farming with iCOOP Cooperative, there is no worry about sales channels, and we are grateful for the multifaceted cooperation from the administration. We will focus on producing high-quality soybeans through eco-friendly rice field soybean cultivation with our members."
