Yoo Geon-sik, Director of KBS Public Media Research Institute, Receives the "Proud Seoul National University of Science and Technology Journalist Award"
Drama 'Good Doctor', Key Player in First Ever Successful US Market Remake
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Seoul National University of Science and Technology Alumni Association of Journalists (President Lee Sang-do) announced on the 22nd that it has selected Yoo Geon-sik, Director of the KBS Public Media Research Institute (photo), as the recipient of the '2021 Proud Seoul National University of Science and Technology Journalist Award.'
Director Yoo graduated from the Department of Urban Administration at Seoul National University of Science and Technology and joined KBS in 1993. He served as the head of the Drama Department and as the representative of KBS America. He gained attention by successfully remaking 'Good Doctor' into the 2017-2018 season for ABC in the United States, marking the first time in Korean drama history. The fifth season has been airing since September this year.
Director Yoo was selected as KBS's first BM (Business Manager) and produced 'Sungkyunkwan Scandal' (2010) and co-produced 'School 2013.' In 2017, he planned and produced the documentary 'The Unfinished 6 Days, 429,' which won the grand prize at the Overseas Korean Language Broadcasting Conference.
He received the Sejong Academic Award and the Broadcasting Society Writing Award for his books 'What is Different Between Mid and Hand' and 'Netflixonomics,' respectively, and also translated and published 'The Netflix Effect.' This year, he released a new book titled 'Netflix Changes the Korean Drama Market.'
Director Yoo obtained qualifications in 'Producing' and 'Entertainment Management' from UCLA Extension and earned a Ph.D. in Journalism from Kwangwoon University. He served as the 46th director of the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies and currently holds positions as an adjunct professor at Konkuk University's Graduate School of Media and Communication, a member of the Broadcasting and Video Leaders Forum of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and a member of the Media Future Forum of the Korea Press Foundation.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology Alumni Association of Journalists general meeting early next year.
