"Simultaneous Supply to 4,000 Encryption Devices" KT Develops High-Speed Quantum Cryptography Communication Technology
Domestic Development of High-Speed Single-Photon Source Generation Module and High-Speed Quantum Random Number Interface Integration
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 22nd that it has independently developed high-speed quantum cryptographic communication technology with a speed of 20kbps.
Quantum cryptographic communication is a next-generation communication technology that uses photons, the smallest unit of light, to transmit information so that only the sender and receiver can decode it. The high-speed quantum cryptographic communication technology developed by KT features the implementation of 20kbps, capable of supplying quantum encryption to 4,000 encryption devices simultaneously. KT also directly developed the core components for realizing high-speed quantum cryptographic communication: the ‘high-speed single-photon light source generation module’ and the ‘high-speed quantum random number linked interface.’
Using the technology and equipment developed by KT this time, it becomes possible to independently establish a Korean-style national security system required in defense, finance, and public sectors, and to strengthen collaboration in developing quantum cryptographic application services. Additionally, KT plans to transfer the high-speed quantum cryptographic communication technology to domestic small and medium-sized enterprises to lead the revitalization of the domestic industrial ecosystem and utilize it for developing various application services for customers.
KT has continuously prepared to provide quantum cryptographic communication network services by succeeding in developing automatic switching and restoration technologies for stabilizing quantum cryptographic communication services, establishing service quality evaluation standards essential for service commercialization, and developing quantum cryptographic operation management technologies for stable operation and management of networks and services. In particular, in the 1st and 2nd phases of the Digital New Deal quantum cryptographic communication pilot infrastructure construction and operation project started last year, KT demonstrated application services that provide secure communication by directly supplying quantum cryptographic keys to non-line-of-sight communication, swarm drones, and autonomous vehicles. Furthermore, at the ITU-T SG13 meeting held in early December, the quantum internet standardization task proposed by KT was adopted, and KT was selected as the person responsible.
