[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] CJ ENM announced on the 22nd that it has published its first ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) report.
The '2021 ESG Report: Content and Commerce, the Beginning of Positive Influence' includes CJ ENM's ESG management philosophy, implementation system, ESG activities, and achievements. CJ ENM plans to communicate with internal and external stakeholders and expand ESG information disclosure through the regular annual publication of ESG reports.
Reflecting the characteristics of each industry, the entertainment sector adopted ECP (Eco-balanced Content Production) and the commerce sector adopted ECV (Eco-balanced Commerce Value-chain) as their ESG philosophies. Based on this, each sector will establish detailed ESG strategies and promote activities in content and product planning, production, and distribution going forward.
A CJ ENM official stated, "CJ ENM designated 2021 as the inaugural year of sustainable management and made efforts to root ESG management philosophy in each business area," adding, "We will strive to create an industrial ecosystem where customers, shareholders, and partners can grow together, fulfilling our social roles and responsibilities as a leading company in the entertainment and commerce sectors."
Meanwhile, CJ ENM strengthened dedicated organizations such as the ESG Committee, the highest decision-making body related to ESG management, this year. Based on this, it also received an overall excellent (A) grade in the '2021 ESG Evaluation' by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS) last November.
In the entertainment sector, the tvN drama 'Hospital Playlist Season 2' conveyed stories about organ donation, contributing to tripling the number of organ donation registrants. Mnet variety programs 'Street Woman Fighter' and the 'Show Me the Money' series brought street dance and hip-hop, previously considered niche cultures, into the spotlight. They also hosted the infotainment environmental conference 'Reading the Environment,' presenting a new concept of entertainment content combining ESG and humanities.
In the commerce sector, CJ ENM introduced the industry's first 'Easy Open Tape' this year to improve convenience in waste separation. They are also running the 'Eco Packaging Together' campaign, providing packaging standards and guidelines to partners. By using eco-friendly packaging materials such as 'Eco Tapeless Box' and 'Paper Tape,' they reduced a total of over 50 tons of plastic. Odense is conducting the upcycling campaign 'THINKS TO THINGS,' which reduces waste, offers high cost-performance products, and donates to children suffering from food insecurity. They have operated the commission-free broadcast 'One Company One Village One Premium Product' for 15 years, achieving total sales exceeding 60 billion KRW.
