Government Presents Humanities Policy Blueprint for the Next 5 Years
Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education Approve the 2nd Basic Promotion Plan Deliberation
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Education held the Humanities and Human Spirit Culture Promotion Council on the 21st and deliberated and approved the 2nd Basic Promotion Plan. This is a blueprint outlining the direction of humanities policy for the next five years. Officials from both sides stated, "Promoting the humanities is now an essential task," and added, "We will faithfully implement the basic plan and collaborate to effectively create and utilize humanities values."
Under the vision of "Realizing Happy Individuals and Dignified Communities," the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will expand humanities programs that comfort and empathize with citizens suffering from COVID-19. It will support challenging projects that address social issues from a humanities perspective and newly promote initiatives such as Humanities Spirit Culture Week, Humanities Answer, and interdisciplinary humanities lectures. Additionally, it will continuously expand libraries, museums, and living culture centers to embody and spread humanities values. An official stated, "We plan to strengthen the foundation for promoting humanities spirit culture by establishing the Humanities Culture Promotion Institute and introducing a humanities learning management system."

The Ministry of Education aims to "promote the humanities that enrich the nation and humanity" by supporting humanities education and research across life cycles and discovering excellent cases of convergence research centered on the humanities. An official said, "We will build a platform linking academic databases of related fields and institutions and gradually expand open information viewing services." As a follow-up to the revision of the National Research and Development Innovation Act, the Ministry of Education will also revise laws and regulations to suit the characteristics of the humanities. Furthermore, it will expand communication venues such as the tentative "Social Dialogue on Future Academic Policy" to build a network in the humanities research field.
