According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 21st, 76 people in the region were confirmed positive for COVID-19 the previous day and were classified as Gwangju cases 7183 to 7258.
There were 10 cases related to a public institution in Dong-gu, 10 cases related to an elementary school in Nam-gu, 2 cases related to a middle school in Gwangsan-gu, 1 case related to a welfare facility in Nam-gu, 1 case related to a middle school in Buk-gu, 1 case related to a daycare center in Buk-gu, 10 cases related to confirmed patients from other cities and provinces, 28 cases related to previously confirmed patients, 1 imported case, and 12 cases under investigation due to symptoms.
The confirmed cases related to the public institution in Dong-gu began when two employees working at a water and sewage-related institution in Dong-gu tested positive on the 18th.
Among them, one person visited a restaurant in Nam-gu, which led to sporadic infections among restaurant staff and visitors. So far, the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the public institution in Dong-gu is 19.
The confirmed cases related to the elementary school in Nam-gu involved children of parents infected through contact with confirmed patients from other regions on the 19th. The previous day, family members tested positive, and through comprehensive testing at the school, 7 additional cases were confirmed.
At a cafe on the first floor of Gwangju City Hall, an employee working in the beverage preparation section tested positive the previous day, leading to a suspension of operations, but no additional cases were reported.
Besides these, sporadic infections occurred among family members, acquaintances, and coworkers, and the 35th COVID-19 death in the Gwangju area was also reported.
The deceased was an elderly person in their 80s who was confirmed positive on the 23rd of last month with an unknown infection route and had been receiving treatment but was confirmed to have died on the 18th.
