[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] It was recently revealed that a 77-day-old baby in Geoje City, Gyeongnam, died after not receiving proper care. The economically struggling parents dried and reused disposable diapers for the baby, and it was found that they only fed formula three times a day.
The Gyeongsangnam-do Fire Headquarters responded to a report on October 23 that the baby was not breathing and rushed to the scene. However, the baby died about an hour after arriving at the hospital. An autopsy revealed bruises on the baby's abdomen and discharge from the buttocks and anus.
According to the police, on the day of the incident, the biological mother, Ms. A (18), was at her parents' home, and the biological father, Mr. B (21), was found to have left the baby and gone to a PC bang for about five hours around midnight.
The deceased baby's parents were so impoverished that they could not afford new diapers and resorted to drying and reusing disposable diapers. They also only fed formula three times a day. For a baby about 70 days old, formula should typically be given every 3 to 4 hours, but adequate feeding was not provided.
Geoje City provided support for the baby's funeral expenses, as the family had none, and there was no record of essential vaccinations or hospital treatments for the baby.
