Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee Establishes 'Year-End and New Year Special Security Measures'... Strengthening Patrols in Vulnerable Areas
Mobilizing All Available Personnel, Special Nighttime and Late-Night Drunk Driving Crackdowns, Crime Prevention Targeting Women, and Inspection of Traffic Safety Facilities for Heavy Snow and Icy Roads
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Autonomous Police Committee has initiated the establishment of special security measures to ensure that Seoul citizens can spend a peaceful and safe year-end and New Year period amid various crimes and COVID-19.
On the 17th, the committee held its 24th regular meeting in the Autonomous Police Committee conference room and directed the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner to establish and implement special security measures for the year-end and New Year period. The special security measures, to be implemented from the 20th of this month to January 7th of next year, include ▲strengthening prevention of various crimes such as crimes against women ▲crackdown on drunk driving and traffic law violations ▲joint crackdown on illegal operations of entertainment establishments to create a safe year-end and New Year period.
Through prior assessment of crime-vulnerable areas, patrol times and targets will be selected, and visible preventive activities will be strengthened. In particular, patrols will be intensified in areas densely populated by single-person households, and during this period, available personnel from cooperative organizations such as the Crime Prevention Officer (CPO) team, Safe Village Security Guards, Autonomous Crime Prevention Units, and local police will be mobilized to the fullest extent.
To eradicate drunk driving during the year-end and New Year period, when drinking gatherings are frequent, mobile drunk driving checkpoints will be conducted mainly in entertainment districts, and personal mobility devices such as motorcycles and kickboards will also be intensively monitored. During this period, the maximum number of available personnel from cooperative organizations such as traffic police officers and exemplary drivers will be secured to strengthen safety activities against traffic disorderly conduct, and crackdowns on delivery motorcycle traffic violations will be intensified to alleviate citizens' inconveniences.
As part of strengthened social distancing measures due to the spread of COVID-19, joint crackdowns by police and autonomous districts will also be conducted on illegal operations at high-risk entertainment facilities. This crackdown targets covert operations of COVID-19 high-risk entertainment facilities, operations conducted behind closed doors, and other illegal business activities. Upon detection, strict law enforcement such as criminal punishment and business suspension will be applied to prevent the serious spread of COVID-19.
