CJ CheilJedang Officially Enters Plant-Based Food Market... Launches Plant-Based Dumplings and Kimchi
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] CJ CheilJedang is making a full-scale entry into the plant-based food market.
On the 20th, CJ CheilJedang announced that it will launch 100% plant-based "Bibigo Dumplings," certified vegan, in South Korea, Australia, and Singapore. Additionally, the company plans to expand the scope of K-Food by launching the plant-based food specialty brand "PlanTable," accelerating the promotion of wellness and sustainability, which are the group’s future growth engines. "PlanTable" is a compound word of Plant and Table, meaning to present "delicious gourmet food made from 100% plant-based ingredients."
The newly launched products include two domestic versions of "Bibigo PlanTable Wang Gyoza" (Original and Kimchi), two export versions (Vegetable and Mushroom), and a total of five types including "Bibigo PlanTable Kimchi." In particular, PlanTable products were planned considering not only the MZ generation but also the rapidly increasing flexitarians (intermittent vegetarians) among general consumers.
The "Bibigo PlanTable Wang Gyoza," which preserves the taste of "Bibigo Wang Gyoza" without meat, uses more than five kinds of vegetables and plant-based oils. Moreover, CJ CheilJedang overcame the sticky texture caused by moisture from vegetables, which lowers the taste of currently sold plant-based products, through its technology to maintain a crispy texture, and controlled the unique bean aroma with "TasteNrich." TasteNrich, concentrated with CJ CheilJedang’s 60 years of research and development (R&D) capabilities, is a next-generation premium food seasoning material developed from umami components produced during the fermentation process of plant-based raw materials such as sugarcane, without any additives or chemical treatments. It is currently being actively used by global alternative meat companies in their products. Additionally, "Bibigo PlanTable Kimchi" is made with 100% plant-based ingredients without salted seafood, resulting in a clean taste.
The export products, Bibigo PlanTable Vegetable/Mushroom Wang Gyoza and Kimchi, will also be exported to Singapore and Australia. A taste quality survey conducted among Singaporean consumers before the launch showed high satisfaction with the taste, receiving higher evaluations than local competing products.
CJ CheilJedang plans to lead the domestic market with the "PlanTable" brand and further expand the scope of K-Food in the global market along with the new product launch.

To this end, the company plans to increase the product lineup next year and expand its business by entering not only the domestic market but also the Americas, Europe, and halal markets with a higher level of quality. In particular, since meat products face many export restrictions due to quarantine issues, most meat-included products such as "Bibigo Dumplings" are currently produced locally. On the other hand, PlanTable products, made from 100% plant-based ingredients, are expected to be able to enter virtually all countries worldwide.
