[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced, "I will declare war on heinous crimes immediately upon election."
On the 17th, Yoon stated on Facebook, "As an expert who has enforced criminal law for 26 years as a prosecutor, I will firmly protect the safety of the people."
He said, "This year alone, the personal information of 10 suspects who committed heinous crimes has been disclosed, the highest annual number since the suspect information disclosure system was implemented in 2010," adding, "A country that cannot protect the safety of its citizens is not a country."
He then cited Article 30 of the Constitution, which states, "Citizens who suffer damage to life or body due to the criminal acts of others may receive relief from the state as prescribed by law," criticizing, "The Moon Jae-in administration has neglected the state's fundamental duties as stipulated by the Constitution."
Yoon said, "Rudolph Giuliani, former mayor of New York City in the United States, erased graffiti in the subway to reduce crime rates," and added, "I will also use all available means to reduce crime."
He pledged to strive to establish a crime prevention system where the state, local governments, and communities communicate organically. He also promised to build a safety net to prevent crime occurrence and to manage post-crime measures to prevent recidivism.
