Gwangju Dong-gu Selected for Community Revitalization Contest... Secures 1 Billion Won
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 16th that it has been selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's '2022 Community Revitalization Infrastructure Project' and secured a total project cost of 1 billion KRW.
The 'Community Revitalization Infrastructure Project' is a project supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in which residents and local governments cooperate to establish community revitalization spaces to realize social values.
In March, Dong-gu signed an agreement with the Chungjang-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee (Chairman Yeo Geun-su) and applied for the contest to create a space where residents can communicate. After on-site inspections by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, it was finally selected as the target site.
With the 1 billion KRW secured from national and city funds through this contest selection, Dong-gu has laid the foundation for creating the resident-led community revitalization village autonomy complex space 'Saram Deuneun Maeulsarangchae Chungjang.' Through this, it is expected to promote alley regeneration, local autonomy, and local economic revitalization.
The project target building is located in Geumnamno 4-ga, where commercial activities have been sluggish due to urban hollowing and economic recession. It will be organized into ▲ Mind Opening 1-dong ▲ Mind Connecting 2-dong ▲ Mind Tying 3-dong ▲ Mind Sharing Space.
'Mind Opening 1-dong' will be used as ▲ Alley Safety Disinfection and Welcome Center ▲ Dong-gu Women's Hope Creation Center ▲ Cafe Gallape showcasing works by village painters. ‘Mind Connecting 2-dong’ will be developed into ▲ Shared kitchen for women's and youth recipe education, startup support, and recipe development and provision to local stores ▲ Shared living room as a leisure space ▲ Open creative space for village creators ▲ Multipurpose room for village meetings, film screenings, and events.
'Mind Tying 3-dong' will include ▲ Family-friendly restrooms ▲ Village broadcasting station ▲ Residents' autonomy committee office, and finally, the Mind Sharing Space will feature ▲ Shared goods center operated by village donations ▲ Shared garden for events and performances such as small weddings and first birthday parties.
Dong-gu plans to start with a structural safety diagnosis of the building and continuously discuss space utilization and operation plans of this building in connection with the Chungjang-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee. It will be operated as a hub space for local autonomy revitalization and local economic revitalization through alley regeneration.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, "It is meaningful to be selected for the contest project that we prepared diligently with local residents despite difficult financial conditions," and added, "I hope this place becomes a communication space for residents and a focal point for local economic revitalization, bringing new vitality to Chungjang-dong."
