View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced on the 16th that he does not intend to apologize regarding the allegations of his wife Kim Gun-hee's inflated academic and career credentials. Yoon appears to be framing the revelations related to Kim as political attacks.
On the morning of the same day, Yoon met with reporters in front of the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and said, "Is there an official apology or something like that? I am not planning to apologize."
He added, "An apology is something you make when you have done something wrong, but you cannot win against the people. If this is an excessive and unfair political attack, then fact-checking can be seen in that context."
Kim recently faced allegations of submitting false career and academic information on her resume when she was hired as a university lecturer. The day before, Kim met with a Yonhap News reporter in front of the Cobana Contents office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and stated, "Regardless of the facts, I apologize if the public feels discomfort and fatigue." She subtly implied that the allegations were not true.
