Half of the Reported Errors in Past CSAT Questions Are in 'Gwatam' Subjects
5 out of 9 cases this year, including the current issue, raised in Science Exploration
"Need for expert public discussion considering the specificity of the Science Exploration field"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] About half of the subjects with alleged errors in past CSAT questions were in the Science Inquiry area.
According to Jongno Academy on the 15th, there have been a total of 9 cases of errors in past CSAT questions, of which 5 were raised in the Science Inquiry area. Errors were pointed out in Physics 2 in 2008, Earth Science 1 in 2010, Life Science 2 in 2015, Physics 2 in 2017, including this year's Life Science 2.
Looking at the cases where question errors were pointed out so far, 6 out of 9 cases were treated as multiple correct answers, and 2 cases were treated as all correct answers.
The cases treated as multiple correct answers are ▲ Language question 17 in 2004 ▲ Physics 2 question 11 in 2008 ▲ Earth Science 1 question 19 in 2010 ▲ Foreign Language question 25 in 2015 ▲ Life Science 2 question 8 in 2015 ▲ Korean History question 14 in 2017.
World Geography question 8 in 2014 and Physics 2 question 9 in 2017 were treated as all correct answers.
As controversies over CSAT question errors continue, there are also calls to improve the system when question verification and error controversies arise.
Lim Seong-ho, CEO of Jongno Academy, said, "Controversies over question errors have been concentrated in the Science Inquiry area, but there is a lack of active public discussion process when issues are raised in specialized fields," adding, "The closed system is the problem, and a channel should be opened for public discussion and active opinions from expert groups."
On the same day, the Seoul Administrative Court Administrative Division 6 will hold the first trial verdict at 2 p.m. on the lawsuit to cancel the answer decision for Life Science II. The Life Science II CSAT scores will also be announced at 6 p.m. on the 15th. Considering the schedules of university admissions, the court moved the verdict date forward by two days from the original 1:30 p.m. on the 17th. Depending on the verdict, the answers will either be treated as all correct or the evaluation institute's answers will be maintained.
Test takers argued that question 20 could not be solved because calculating according to the passage results in a negative (-) number of individuals in the group, which is an error. The evaluation institute's position is that even if the question's conditions are incomplete, it does not affect the discrimination of academic achievement levels.
