According to the Korea Mountaineering & Trekking Support Center (hereafter the Center) on the 14th, this forest trail is one of the 12 Daegwallyeong forest trails operated by the Center as part of the national forest trails. It was established using the 'direct seeding' method, where pine seeds were sown directly between 1922 and 1928.
The Daegwallyeong Pine Forest Trail was opened to the public in 2018, and for about 100 years after its creation, it was not easily accessible to the general public.
Since its opening, however, it has gained recognition by being selected as a beautiful forest to be preserved for the 22nd century at the 1st Beautiful Forest National Competition in 2000, and consecutively designated as one of the top 10 premium forests for management and landscape by the Korea Forest Service in 2017.
The Daegwallyeong Pine Forest Trail covers a total area of 4 km² (equivalent to 571 soccer fields) and is densely populated with Geumgang Pine (Hwangjangmok), forming a lush forest.
Since 2019, the Center has been operating and managing this forest trail, currently providing customized forest trail guidance and forest interpretation programs to visitors through eco-friendly travel information. On May 1st, it was also listed as a national forest trail designated by the Korea Forest Service.
