Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul, Christmas Market and Music Performances Around Myeongdong Cathedral
The Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul (Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek) is hosting the Christmas festival "2021 Myeongdong, Lighting Up Winter," which will be held on a smaller scale from the 24th to the 26th of this month around Myeongdong Cathedral. The event is supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation, and the Catholic Peace Newspaper.
In the plaza in front of the Myeongdong Catholic Center, from 6 PM to 9 PM on the 24th and from 11 AM to 9 PM on the 25th and 26th, diocesan priests will personally prepare and sell mulled wine (a warm drink made by heating wine with cinnamon, fruits, and other ingredients). Young artists will showcase handmade sacred items and everyday crafts. The plaza will feature about ten booths along with a "Tree of Hope." Visitors passing through Myeongdong can write their wishes on the Tree of Hope, hang them on the tree, and donate the cost of the ribbon.
The collected donations and hopeful messages will be delivered to the Seoul Archdiocese’s free meal service "Myeongdong Bapjip," where they will be used to provide warm meals to marginalized neighbors in our society.
At the entrance of Myeongdong Cathedral, a choir will perform Christmas carols. On the 24th, performances include Seoul Brass Sound at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM, and the cpbc Boys and Girls Choir at 7:30 PM. On the 25th, the schedule features Accordiem at 12:30 PM, Magnificat Children’s Choir at 1:30 PM, Melanchy Opera Company at 7:30 PM, and Myeongdong Cathedral Youth Choir at 8:30 PM, filling the area around Myeongdong Cathedral with beautiful music. On the 26th, the cpbc Boys and Girls Choir, Accordiem, and Melanchy Opera Company will perform at 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 1:30 PM respectively at the entrance of Myeongdong Cathedral and the Myeongdong Bapjip yard.
