Jeju Island Conducts 'Construction Site Safety Inspections' in Preparation for Winter

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 14th that it will conduct safety inspections targeting large-scale development project construction sites to prevent winter fires and manage quality control such as concrete curing.

The main inspection targets are construction sites authorized by the province among large-scale development projects, including sites where construction has been halted, with plans for a full inspection.

The inspection period will last for two weeks starting from today, and a joint inspection team composed of private experts such as the Architectural Society, the Korea Industrial Safety Association, and the Structural Committee of the Architectural Committee has been formed.

During the safety inspections, COVID-19 prevention guidelines such as wearing masks, thorough personal hygiene, and social distancing will be strictly followed.

The main inspection items include the management status of hazardous materials with fire risks, proper installation of temporary structures that may bear snow loads during heavy snowfall, and quality control appropriateness such as winter concrete curing.

Education on winter accident cases, safety inspection methods, and procedures in case of accidents will also be conducted for construction site representatives and facility managers.

If any non-compliance is found during this safety inspection, issues that can be corrected on-site will be addressed immediately, while risk factors or serious defects will be subject to focused management such as guidance and supervision until improvements are made.

Insufficient facilities will undergo reinforced inspections such as re-inspections, and problems and improvement measures will be required to be supplemented and resolved.

Lee Chang-min, Director of the Jeju Provincial Urban Construction Bureau, said, “Through this inspection, we plan to emphasize the need to strengthen winter safety management and promote the prevention of safety accidents.”
