LG CNS Launches Emergency Helpdesk Amid 'Log4j' Hacking Crisis
LG CNS announced on the 14th that it has opened a helpdesk in response to a critical vulnerability discovered in the internet server software 'Log4j' that could lead to severe hacking damage.
The Log4j helpdesk provides detailed explanations of the response guide and answers customer inquiries. LG CNS has already distributed response guides to clients, including blocking suspicious attacker IPs, applying Log4j patches, and configuring Web Application Firewalls (WAF). These measures are aimed at minimizing potential damage that may occur to clients. The helpdesk was urgently established to promptly provide security vulnerability countermeasures.
LG CNS has launched an emergency operation system mobilizing its in-house DX (Digital Transformation) specialized teams in security, cloud, architecture, and solutions. Security experts and specialists from related fields such as development and infrastructure have been deployed. Going forward, LG CNS is also considering extending helpdesk support to companies in need, even if they are not clients, should the Log4j incident escalate into a national IT disaster.
Log4j is a program development utility. Developers can embed a function in Log4j to record program operation logs into a repository (library). Recently, a security vulnerability was detected that allows external intruders to hijack server administrator privileges through Log4j. Attackers can gain server administrator rights without entering account credentials by exploiting Log4j. Through this, intruders can secretly implant malware on servers, leak desired information, and arbitrarily delete critical data. Log4j is estimated to be widely applied across domestic and international systems, from online shopping malls to financial services and internal intranets.
