The Traditional Culture Education Center of the Korean Traditional Culture University under the Cultural Heritage Administration (Director Park Hee-woong) is recruiting trainees for the 2022 ‘Cultural Heritage Repair Craftsman Training Course’ from the 13th until January 14th of next year.
Since 2012, the Traditional Culture Education Center has been operating the ‘Cultural Heritage Repair Craftsman Training Course’ aimed at training cultural heritage repair craftsmen as stipulated by the ‘Cultural Heritage Repair Act.’ Experts from the field, including master artisans in various fields, provide free specialized education focused on practical skills and hands-on training tailored to the trainees’ level.
The recruitment fields consist of a total of three courses with 23 categories. Specifically, these are ▲ Basic Course with 7 categories (Lacquering, Joinery, Dancheong, Baecheop (褙貼), Gilding, Metalwork, Thread Wrapping) ▲ Advanced Course with 8 categories (Lacquering, Joinery, Dancheong, Jangseok, Blacksmithing, Baecheop, Thread Wrapping, Conservation Treatment) ▲ On-site Commissioned Course with 8 categories (Korean-style Stonemasonry, Korean-style Plastering, Beonwawa Gong (?瓦瓦工), Tile Making, Carpenter, Dujabi, Ondol, Stone Carving).

The trainee selection process consists of two stages: document screening (first stage) and interview (second stage). To select trainees suitable for the educational goal of cultivating high-quality repair craftsmen, a comprehensive evaluation will be conducted through in-depth interviews assessing not only majors and experience but also the willingness to work in the cultural heritage repair field and qualifications as repair craftsmen.
