SK Telecom's 'AI Integrated Package' Adopted as ITU-T Standard Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The AI integrated package 'AI Full Stack' standardization proposal, suggested by SK Telecom, has been adopted as a new project by the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
On the 12th, SK Telecom announced that in this standardization proposal, the components of 'AI Full Stack' were classified and defined into four main modules: ▲AI Processor ▲AI Database ▲AI Modeling ▲AI Applications and API, and a blueprint for interconnection among these elements was proposed.
ITU-T is the standardization sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations (UN) affiliated international ICT organization. Currently, over 900 members from more than 190 member countries, including industry, academia, and research institutions, are active.
Going forward, SK Telecom will standardize architecture (structure), signaling methods, and data types for interconnection to optimize the integrated package together with member companies. Until now, there have been standardizations for detailed technologies such as hardware and software necessary for AI service implementation, but this is the first time a single package connecting each technical element has been standardized.
The adoption of the 'AI Full Stack' standardization is evaluated to have been possible because SK Telecom has accumulated R&D capabilities and developed component technologies through years of research on the entire AI process. SK Telecom has researched the entire AI process including the AI-specialized semiconductor 'Sapeon', AI automatic modeling tool 'MetaRunner', AI computation data storage and management systems 'Lightning DB' and 'MetaVision', and AI service 'AI Camera'.
Once a global standard for AI service development is established, it will not only secure a leading position in the global AI standard but also enable interconnection between components even if developed by different companies, allowing AI services to be composed in various combinations. Additionally, various ideas can quickly be converted into AI services, such as AI combined with control infrastructure providing social safety nets or AI-based medical imaging diagnostic assistance solutions being introduced.
Accordingly, SK Telecom plans to expand the application of 'AI Full Stack' starting with its major AI services to SK affiliates and key sectors such as security, media, manufacturing, and healthcare.
Previously, SK Telecom proposed standardization centered on its vision AI technology and services to the Korea Information and Communication Technology Association (TTA), a domestic ICT standardization organization, which was adopted last October. On the 8th, SK Telecom received a commendation plaque from TTA in recognition of its contributions to standardization.
